Decorative paste paper is a fun and versatile art lesson. Students can have fun creating decorative papers to use in later book arts projects as well as learn about the history of paste paper.

Historically, paste paper is the decorated end paper that was used in the art of bookbinding. The paper was made by brushing colored paste onto paper and then drawing patterns and designs onto the paste with combs, stamps, scrapers, forks, and any other tool one could find. Today bookbinders still use paste papers to embellish books however, paste papers are also used in a variety of other ways.
